Samoa holidays are amongst the most affordable in the South Pacific and the country remains one of the least developed for tourism with only a handful of holiday resorts around its two large islands but plenty of budget beach huts. Sightseeing on both Upolu and Savaii is fantastic with a very open and traditional culture, stunning blowholes, ancient lava fields, endless waterfalls as well as majestic rainforest and secluded beaches.

If you're looking for a beautiful samoa resort, your options are somewhat limited as there are only a handful of boutique beach resorts around the two main islands of Upolu and Savaii. The pretty capital town of Apia although lacking a beach has a good selection of hotels. Although the country has far fewer boutique resorts than most of its South pacific neighbours, and no archetypically small island resorts, the country has a well established network of budget beach huts (known as beach fales) operated by local Samoan families and this makes it a popular backpacker destination. American Samoa, 150-km further east, has an even more limited tourist facilities with only a handful of business style hotels mostly around the picturesque port and capital town, Pago Pago.

Samoa is split into two countries, (Western) Samoa has the greatest tourist appeal , and American Samoa which is geared mostly towards business travellers and Samoans living overseas. The main island of the group is Upolu with the charming seaside town of Apia, several upmarket beach resorts around the south coast and the international airport. Neighbouring Savaii is the largest island and although sparsely populated has some great sightseeing including lava fields, blowholes and tropical forests.
